New recruiters come into a split placement network to expand their reach, build their revenues, and to better serve clients and candidates. Just like joining anything, it can be hard to be the “newbie” and break in to a split placement network. Where do you start? How does it work? How long will it take to get that first split placement fee in your pocket?
An NPAworldwide member in North Carolina is the perfect example of a successful venture into a split placement network. She joined NPAworldwide in March of 2022, attended NPA’s Global Conference in April 2022, and then made her first split placement in May 2022! She has since racked up 7 more splits to date, and was recently elected to lead NPAworldwide’s Technology Practice Group.
She knows what it takes to be successful — here is her recipe for success:
- 1 part visibility – she is a regular on NPA practice group calls, where she learns more about what the other ‘players’ in the group are doing, and introduces herself and her area of specialization. Connections happen on these calls, and splits happen due to the connections made! She is sure to follow-up with members directly after the call if she thinks she can help on their jobs.
- 2 dashes of utilizing your network’s tools and resources – shortly after joining, she elected to utilize NPA’s peer coach program, where new members are paired up with a longtime, successful member who can show them the ropes. She credits this member for helping her make connections and making her feel welcome at the conference she attended a month after joining.
- 1 heap of know-how – she is an IT and cybersecurity recruiter, so it helps that she has 15+ years experience in the technical industry, starting as a developer and then leading teams as both a Software Development Manager and a Technical Project Manager. She knows how to “talk the talk, and walk the walk.” That’s not to say you can’t recruit in an area that you haven’t been a practitioner in, but you do have to understand the lingo / buzzwords, and the trends and nuances of recruiting in the field. It helps to have relationships with partners in the field who have lots of experience, and being part of a split placement network gives access to that.
- 3 scoops of what it takes to build a great partnership – communication, feedback, and trust. She makes it a habit to reach out to partners and understand their expectations, and in return she expects the same – quick feedback on the candidates she submits, and her partners to be transparent and give her all the information she needs to find the perfect fit.
Mix it all up and go “All-In” – NPA isn’t something you can dip your toe into when things slow down. In any split placement network, you have to be visible and be consistent, and always be building and cultivating relationships (not just when you need something). Shortly after joining, Christine went all-in and attended NPAworldwide’s annual global conference, where she made lots of connections – and friends. She understood the ROI from the get-go, and credits this with helping jump-start her success in NPA. There is nothing like meeting face-to-face and really getting to know your trading partners to help build those relationships.
When you are truly ready to utilize and participate in a split placement network, a recipe that is heavy on visibility, being proactive, and embracing the network’s tools and partners, will surely lead to success.
