Recruitment has never been easy, but the current conditions are as difficult and complex as they have ever been. The Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) is down to 62.2%. That means there is a bunch of talent sitting on the sidelines. It will be your job in 2023 to help draw some of the talent back into the work force. Consider these recruitment trends as you make that effort in 2023!
Short/Easy Application Process
Candidates care about the process to apply. If it takes too long, or cannot be done on a mobile device, then candidates will drop out of the process. It is reported that about three-quarters of applicants want to know how long it will take before they apply. Adjust your recruitment process to allow for easy apply or LinkedIn apply to work with your sites. It will increase applications.
Mobile Accessibility
Make sure your jobs can be applied to via mobile. NPAworldwide runs a job board and more than 1/3 of all apps come in via mobile. Your recruitment process needs to be mobile friendly. This is one of the recruitment trends that is not going to disappear anytime soon.
Recruitment Referrals
Use each call you make with an applicant to find others who might want to apply to your openings. It needs to be a well-constructed and implemented question to get the recruitment referrals you seek. For example, if you are looking to hire a senior level candidate, you may want to ask them about direct reports that “got away” that they would want to have as part of their teams. If you are hiring lower-level candidates, you will want to ask about the best leader/managers they ever had. Ask your employers to provide cash incentives to fill the pipeline with more recruitment referrals that you can add to the interview process.
Video
For 2023, consider experimenting with video to review the company culture or to introduce the company’s mission or work. Use video to capture a list of frequently asked questions about the position. You cannot do everything live and still be productive. Get some things captured on video to share so that you and the candidate can connect in ways other than live.
Webinars for Candidates/Free Stuff
Have you considered doing interview training webinars for candidates? Do they understand behavioral-based interviewing, or could you give them the facts they need to know? Can you do a quick ad-free review of resumes or cover letters for candidates? What else do they value that you could do for them? A recorded mock interview? Get creative.
The year ahead will be filled with opportunities for those prepared and willing to try new things. Get a few new practices added to your recruitment tool kit for 2023. If you are not evolving, you are losing ground versus your competition. So, get busy! Happy New Year!!!
