Today’s guest blogger is Patrick Long, founder and managing partner of Provision People based in San Diego, CA. Provision People works in a variety of industries, namely: financial services, accounting, manufacturing, sales, technology, agriculture, defense, and a few other verticals too. Patrick is also an NPAworldwide Board Director with responsibility for the Western North America region. Patrick sees hiring signals every day, from leadership changes to funding rounds, acquisitions, and candidate activity — and he knows that the recruiters who act on them first are the ones who win.
Recruiters don’t have a data problem anymore.
We have a speed problem.
Every day we’re surrounded by hiring signals: leadership changes, funding announcements, plant expansions, acquisitions, LinkedIn updates, earnings calls, industry news, AI alerts, and candidate activity.
The challenge isn’t finding more information.
It’s acting on it before someone else does.
Be Omnipresent
Today’s best recruiters don’t rely on one platform.
They’re active across LinkedIn, industry associations, conferences, trade publications, referrals, podcasts, newsletters, and their own networks.
Being omnipresent means consistently showing up where your clients and candidates already spend their time.
Being omnichannel means recognizing that hiring signals come from everywhere…not just job boards or your ATS.
Speed Wins
Information is no longer a competitive advantage.
Execution is.
Every hiring signal has a shelf life. The recruiter who reaches out today will have a different conversation than the one who waits until the job is posted.
That’s why I believe firms should start measuring Signal-to-Action Time—the time between recognizing a hiring signal and having a meaningful conversation with a client or candidate.
The shorter that window, the greater your competitive advantage.
Technology Doesn’t Close Searches
AI and automation are incredible at surfacing opportunities.
But they don’t build relationships.
Recruiters do.
The firms that will win over the next decade won’t be the ones with the most data. They’ll be the ones that are visible across multiple channels, recognize hiring signals quickly, and act before everyone else.
Be omnipresent. Be omnichannel. Reduce your Signal-to-Action Time.
